With its headquarters in Seoul, South Korea, HMM was originally launched in 1976 with just three vessels. Today, HMM is the 8th largest container carrier in the world, with six regional headquarters, including its UK and European HQ in London. Operations are performed through a fleet of over 100 state-of-the-art vessels, including some of the world 's largest 24k TEU Megamax-24 class container ships. Recognising the need to invest in capabilities which are key to the success for a sustainable future, HMM is engaged in multiple initiatives as part of its continuous environmental improvement programme to achieve Net Zero carbon emissions across its fleet by 2045. Examples of this are nine methanol-powered 9k teu containerships coming into service in 2025/2026, the further rollout of advanced marine biofuels, and field tests of Onboard Carbon Capture System technologies which started in the summer of 2024.
