Able Sail Toronto

Able Sail Toronto (AST) is a sailing club for people with physical disabilities based out of National Yacht Club. At Able Sail Toronto, we are dedicated to providing people with the opportunity to enjoy sailing. We know the health and social benefits that adults, youth and children with disabilities can gain from sailing. Able Sail Toronto exists to enable access to sport and healthy activities, at a subsidized rate. Sailing is a versatile sport that easily adapts to the needs of people with physical disabilities, and it levels the playing field. Our goal is to enable a sense of independence and self-sufficiency that can truly be felt on the water. Participants have the option to pleasure sail, race, participate in regattas, enjoy social cruises and offseason community activities. Our mission is to relieve conditions associated with a physical disability by providing specially adapted sailboats, sailing programs and facilities in a safe environment. Our VISION provides participants with an opportunity to challenge themselves, improve and learn new skills. We offer the opportunity and resources necessary for those challenged physically to learn to sail and ultimately to sail independently. Sailing with the adaptive sailboats and assistive technology (which we provide) has transformed lives, brought opportunities of freedom and independence, and provided a positive effect on our members’ personal and social lives Able Sail Toronto depends on the support of private, public and corporate donations. Funds donated are used to purchase and maintain the adapted sailboats as well as other equipment. They also allow us to subsidize the sailing program.
